Federal Requirements

The Office of Regulatory Affairs can assist units and individuals in tracking/documenting RCR training required by Federal agencies. Email train@ora.msu.edu or call 517-884-0948.

Agencies

  • USDA grantees - Requires training in authorship, data management and research misconduct. Use CITI Programs "MSU Graduate Schools RCR Program" or "RCR for NSF and USDA Grantees" or attend in-person workshops on those topics. No retraining is required. 
  • NSF grantees - Requires training, no specific topics or amount (www.nsf.gov). Use CITI Programs "MSU Graduate Schools RCR Program" or "RCR for NSF and USDA Grantees" or attend in-person workshops. No retraining is required. 
  • NIH grantees - Requires 8 hours of training every 4 years. Some must be in-person. May use Grad School Workshop, mentor meeting, department seminar...) in addition to CITI modules. (grants.nih.gov)
  • -- NIH also requires Financial Conflict of Interest training every 4 years (register) and depending on the project, Human Subjects Protection Training (register).
  • PHS grantees - While not specifically 'RCR' training, PHS does require Financial Conflict of Interest training.
  • Projects involving Human Subjects or Animals have specific training requirements.

Depending upon the standard you are trying to meet, you may be required to complete one or more items. Check with your department.
